Chickens and other poultry will readily begin to pant if they are too hot, which can predispose them to respiratory diseases. Here are some handy tips to keep them comfortable in the hot weather.
- Ensure shade is available in a well-ventilated area during the hottest part of the day
- Provide fresh, clean water at all times
- Give them a bowl of crushed ice to play with
- Small amounts of treats of frozen fruit can be given (please don't overdo it or you can cause diarrhoea)
